Entrepreneurship and the U.S. Economy (See Actual Statistics)

A great resource for obtaining statistics about entrepreneurship within the U.S. economy is from The Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Here is a direct link to the Department's statistics on the above topic:

The following charts listed below are from the above website - where you can also find further indepth descriptions and explanations of each chart.  The charts below are pretty self-explanatory, but in short they cover the following topics:

Chart #1: The number of new businesses started in each year from 1994 through 2010. One special note of interest is that 2010 was the lowest year on record for new businesses (beginning from 1994).

Chart #2: The number of new jobs created by the new businesses.

Chart #3: Most of us have probably heard the phrase of something like "50% of businesses don't make it past 'x' years, etc.".....well, you can view the actual statistics below regarding this topic/issue.

Chart 1. Number of establishments less than 1 year old, March 1994–March 2010

Chart 2. Jobs created by establishments less 1 one year old, March 1994–March 2010

Chart 3. Survival rates of establishments, by year started and number of years since starting, 1994–2010
